We Go Beyond For You
The TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of the South Shore offers our patients compassionate care for craniofacial pain and sleep disordered breathing. We have always focused our dental treatment on whole body health, and a systemic approach to care. Our approach to the management of TMD, craniofacial pain and sleep disordered breathing is no different. We understand the challenges in diagnosing and addressing your pain, but we will partner with you to welcome you back to health.
Chronic Pain
Jaw Clenching
Clenching your jaw muscles can lead to headaches, toothaches, jaw pain and other problems. With proper assessment and diagnosis, the habit can be managed and pain can be eliminated.
Laser Therapy
Laser therapy is a relatively new treatment for TMJ that has shown promising results. It works by stimulating the cells in the area and promoting healing. Some studies show that it can be as effective as surgery, and has the added benefit of being non-invasive.
Migraine Relief
The symptoms of migraines can arise from TMJ pain. Additionally, TMJ pain can present similarly to migraines, so proper diagnosis is necessary for effective treatment.
Orthopedic Dysfunction
Inflammation can affect the TMJ, or temporomandibular joint, resulting in pathologic change and symptoms of pain like headaches, jaw pain or challenging chewing.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive Sleep Apnea, or OSA, is a condition where your airway physically collapses during sleep, leading to breathing repeatedly stopping and starting. This results in poor sleep quality, daytime lethargy and is often accompanied by snoring.
Teeth Grinding
One common oral health issue associated with TMJ is teeth grinding, also known as bruxism. In most cases, bruxism happens during sleep and can lead to tension headaches, tooth sensitivity, and jaw pain.
Snoring
Snoring is more than something that keeps your partner up at night. It could be the sign of a bigger sleep breathing disorder, such as OSA.
Myofunctional Therapy
An effective treatment solution for easing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. This type of therapy focuses on massaging the muscles and ligaments in the jaw area, which helps to relax and restore function to the joint itself.
Ear Pain
Many people with ear pain may not realize it is TMJ-related. Ear pain can be caused by several factors, including inflammation, muscle tension, nerve compression, teeth grinding, and a misaligned jaw.
Jaw Noises
TMJ dysfunction, which can cause severe clicking or popping, occurs when the joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull is not working properly. While not typically painful, it can cause discomfort and difficulty chewing or speaking.
Trigeminal Neuralgia
Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition affecting the trigeminal nerve, often causing sudden, severe facial pain. We relieve pain through targeted therapies and advanced procedures designed to address the underlying nerve irritation.
Providing Non-Surgical Therapies | Restoring Quality of Life
At the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of the South Shore we understand the unique complexities of sleep-related breathing disorders and craniofacial pain. Do you have TMJ pain or dysfunctions? Patients often experience facial neuralgia and musculoskeletal pain in conjunction with headaches or migraines.
Are You Experiencing Any of the Following?
Snoring
Jaw Clenching
Grinding Teeth
Morning Headaches
Insomnia
Any of the above could be a sign of sleep-related breathing disorders and should be evaluated promptly.
Our Mission:
We will partner with you to understand your unique health needs. Our goal is to go above and beyond to provide pain relief and ideal structural stability so our patients can breathe, sleep, heal and live a quality life.
About Us
Proper Diagnosis and Emphasis on Origin is Key to Successful Treatment
We provide comprehensive evaluations using the latest technologies to properly diagnose your condition. Through a thorough examination in which we evaluate structural injuries, systemic inflammatory conditions, and breathing obstructions, we can determine the cause of your pain or sleep dysfunction and direct appropriate treatments.
The goals in treatment are to rehabilitate injured structures, restore orthopedic function, and improve symptoms with long-term stabilization through both a structural and functional approach. Rather than treating symptoms, we address the underlying pathology to return you to a pain-free and well-rested life.
There is a strong relationship between temporomandibular joint dysfunction, headaches, sleep, and breathing. All must be evaluated and addressed in order to achieve the maximum therapeutic result.
